Thoughts about Prayers for the Household of Faith.
Our church discipleship groups are going through Titus this fall. It is from Paul's instruction to Titus (1:5) that the reformers coined the phrase, "Reformed, but always reforming." The church of Christ on earth will never be perfect. It is made up of men and women saved and being sanctified by grace.
As I pray Paul's prayers for my church (see pg 210 in POYH), I have found that I also need to be reminded of God's promises regarding His church. For the strengthening of my faith, I have written out these verses on pg. 67.
On this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Mt 16:18
And God put all things under Christ's feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church which is his body the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 1:22,23
Christ loved the church and gave hiself up for her that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thingm that she might be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:25-26
Fear not, little flock, for it is the Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke 12:32
If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31
"The church is the kingdom community, existing in the already and the not yet, living out God's eternal purpse of cosmic unity, all for God's glory." Christopher Morgan.
